Automated Core Maintenance System
The Future of Air Traffic Control: Human Operators and Automation by Christopher D. Wickens, Automation in air traffic control may increase efficiency, but it also raises questions about adequate human control over automated systems. Following on the panel's first volume on air traffic control automation, Flight to the Future (NRC, 1997), this book focuses on the interaction of pilots and air traffic controllers, with a growing network of automated functions in the airspace system. The panel offers recommendations for development of human-centered automation, addressing key areas such as providing levels of automation that are appropriate to levels of risk, examining procedures for recovery from emergencies, free flight versus ground-based authority, and more. The book explores ways in which technology can build on human strengths and compensate for human vulnerabilities, minimizing both mistrust of automation and complacency about its abilities. The panel presents an overview of emerging technologies and trends toward automation within the national airspace system -- in areas such as global positioning and other aspects of surveillance, flight information provided to pilots and controllers, collision avoidance, strategic long-term planning, and systems for training and maintenance. The book examines how to achieve better integration of research and development, including the importance of user involvement in air traffic control. It also discusses how to harmonize the wide range of functions in the national airspace system, with a detailed review of the free flight initiative.
Just Enough Software Test Automation by Daniel J. Mosley, Techniques that improve software quality and reduce time to marketPragmatic approaches to plan and manage every facet of automated software testingIncludes a complete sample automation project plan Practical automated testing techniques that enhance software quality and reduce time to market! "Just Enough Test Automation" is a practical, hands-on guide to software test automation from the perspective of test developers and users. Two leading software testing consultants offer real-world dos and don'ts for designing and implementing test automation infrastructure--along with pragmatic advice on what today's most popular approaches to automated testing can and can't accomplish. Coverage includes: Setting realistic expectations: knowing when and what to automatePlanning for automated testingImplementing the Control Synchronized Data Driven Testing (CSDDT) Framework, a proven approach to simplify and accelerate testingSimplify maintenance of test scripts and promote reuse using structured test script writing.Automating unit testing, integration testing, and system/regression testingManaging the automated testing process for optimal efficiency The book also includes a complete sample automation project plan, covering documentation, implementation, the automation environment, roles, responsibilities, and much more.
Automated Surface Observing System - The Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) and the older Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) are sensors used to measure and record hourly and significant weather conditions at airports across the United States. The newer Automated Weather Sensor System (AWSS) is the successor to AWOS, reporting once per minute. Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System - The Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) is a national fingerprint and criminal history system maintained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The IAFIS provides automated fingerprint search capabilities, latent searching capability, electronic image storage, and electronic exchange of fingerprints and responses. Truth maintenance system - A truth maintenance system, or TMS, is a knowledge representation method for representing both beliefs and their dependencies. The name truth maintenance is due to the ability of these systems to restore consistency. National Automated Fingerprint Identification System - The National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) was established in Australia in 1986, an upgraded system commenced operations in April 2001 and provides technological improvements in fingerprint matching for use by law enforcement agencies.
